Mobile Automation Essentials with CAN Bus J1939

Learn to:

  • Create a simple controller program to control electrical devices
  • Configure a controller module with inputs and outputs (I/O)
  • Connect conventional analog and J1939 sensors
  • Conduct basic CAN bus troubleshooting
  • Interpret CAN bus J1939 messages using a PicoScope and a PCAN device

This is a hands-on course featuring the automation electronics in heavy machinery, large vehicles and your specific equipment.

Participants will learn the CAN bus physical layer and the J1939 protocols. ISOBUS and CANopen will also be introduced.

The Parker IQAN automation controller will be utilized for hands-on projects, supporting the logic, the I/O control system and CAN networking capabilities.

Participants will receive a full introduction to CAN from its originating design to current standards as well as its topology and application. Methods of analyzing a CAN message frame will be taught.

This 3-day course is taught with live equipment circuits (wiring harness training panels with controllers and I/O devices), troubleshooting software and through instructor-guided, hands-on use of multimeters, scopes and other tools.
